This research aimed to (1) study the knowledge of herbs and health promotion of people in Mahasarakham Province, (2) study methods for enhancing local herbal sages networks and (3) propose a process for enhancing the local sages network and herbal health promotion in Mahasarakham Province. The sample groups in this research are government officials, experts, nurses from government hospitals, abbot, monks, community leaders, local sages and other participants involved in the study, total of 65 people. Mixed research method applied to use consisted of documentary research, qualitative research in the field study by using in-depth interviews and focus group. The results found that : 1. The knowledge of herbs and health promotion of the people in Mahasarakham Province has discovered local wisdom from Bai Lan documents which are recipe book of Wat Pho Si Chiang Hian drug recipe and 17 Chiang Hian recipe has been developed by using herbal medicine to be more convenient to use, such as capsules, tablets, creams or ointments for external application, etc. 2. The methods for enhancing local herbal sages networks in Mahasarakham Province, with folk doctors knowledgeable in promoting and caring for the health of the local people with the knowledge of traditional Thai medicine or folk medicine, including the local doctor network of Ban Chiang Hian by learning from textbooks, Inheritance from generation to generation and from experience in the context of local culture is a person who plays a role in the healing, health care of people in the community being accepted and trusted by the community able to respond the needs of people in health care in many dimensions, both physical, mental, social, cultural and belief. 3. The process for enhancing the local sages network and herbal health promotion in Mahasarakham Province could be divided into five processes as follows: Forming health teamwork, Raising awareness for community in health problems, Planning to solve community health problems, Community operations and Monitoring and evaluation. Therefore, awareness of the good health caused by herbs in the community will lead to a healthy body and the use of herbs in sustainable health care of people in the community.
