The purposes of this research were to 1) develop learning activities using metacognitive strategies supplemented with reading skill exercises of Mathayomsuksa 1 students 2) study and compare the English reading comprehension ability before and after using the metacognitive strategies supplemented with reading skill exercises of Mathayomsuksa 1 students; and 3) study the students’ attitude towards learning activities using metacognitive strategies supplemented with reading skill exercises of Mathayomsuksa 1 students. The sample consisted of 35 Mathayomsuksa 1 students who were studying in the academic year 2016, Chiangkhan District, Loei Province, using the cluster random sampling technique. The research instruments were 9 lesson plans and reading skill exercises, teaching observation forms, students’ behavior observation forms, students’ interview forms, quizzes, English reading comprehension ability test and attitude questionnaire. The data was analyzed by percentage, mean, standard deviation and t-test for dependent samples. The findings of this research were as follows:
1. The development of learning activities using metacognitive strategies supplemented with reading skill exercises of Mathayomsuksa 1 students; There are 3 strategies are as follow 1) Centering Your Learning 2) Arranging and Planning Your learning
3) Evaluating Your Learning.
2. The students’ pretest and posttest score on English reading comprehension ability were 18.00 mean scores or 45.00 % and 30.40 mean scores or 76.00 % respectively, there were not less than 75 percent criterion. The students’ English reading comprehension ability before learning through metacognitive strategies supplemented with reading skill exercises was found significantly higher than that of the prior one.
3. The students’ attitude towards learning activities using metacognitive strategies supplemented with reading skill exercises was at a good level.
